Project:   Capacity of small diameter Pin Piles

PI(s):  Robert D. Holtz

Sponsor:  University of Washington

Objective:   To develop a data base from load tests so that standard design capacity values can be used with confidence on pin piles larger than 2 in. in diameter.

Research Approach:   The City of Seattle requires that load tests be conducted on all pin piles larger than 2 in. in diameter at all projects. Pin pile contractors, thus, have lots of load test data that can be correlated with soil type, SPT N-values, etc. The files of local pin pile contractors will be reviewed and load test data on pin piles will be obtained. Geotechnical information will also be obtained for each test site.
