Project:   Ko of very stiff Lawton Clay

PI(s):  Robert D. Holtz

Sponsor:  University of Washington

Objective:   To obtain realistic values of the coefficient of lateral earth pressure in deep deposits of Lawton clay

Research Approach:   Drilling and sampling of deep deposits of Lawton clay below Seattle is necessary for the design of the tunnels for the Sound Transit system. A Ko consolidometer developed here a few years ago will be improved so that undisturbed samples of very stiff clay can be tested under Ko consolidation conditions.
