Steve Muench has taken the long route to the University. He first graduated from the UW through the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps program and received his commission in August of 1990. He then went to nuclear power school, nuclear prototype and submarine school before serving 3 years on USS WILLIAM H. BATES (SSN 680) out of Pearl Harbor, HI. He spent 2 more years teaching submarine tactics at the Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific before leaving the Navy and returning to the UW for a master’s degree. Steve then worked for a local consultant company, Perteet, Inc., as a design engineer until he returned to the UW one last time in 2001. Steve has held Husky student football tickets for 11 years (not continuous), an unverified record; he now pays full price and sits in the faculty/staff section.
