Microsoft Campus Agreement Program
The Microsoft Campus Agreement (MSCA) is
an annual licensing program which provides the latest versions of Windows
operating system and desktop productivity applications to higher education
institutions. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has
participated in MSCA program since July 2003 and is one of the few
departments which extends this opportunity to its students as well as
faculty and staff.
Students can take advantage of this program by filling out the "Licensing
Agreement Form" (PDF or DOC format) and contacting
the departmental computing office (help@ce.washington.edu).
The products available for students are the following:
- Windows XP Professional (Upgrade Only)
- MS Office Professional 2003 for Windows and MAC OS (Full License)
Computing Facilities
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UW currently runs two computer labs:
The total number of desktop computers located in the More 001 computer lab is 75 machines. Software is updated quarterly:

Civil and Environmental Engineering's Computer Support Team provides support for the departmental labs, UNIX machines and desktop computers in the department. Please read the message boards for current system and lab information.
Departmental Computer Support
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has some of the finest computer support staff on campus. They are ready to help you with general computing questions, including but not limited to:
- Departmental UNIX account information, forgotten passwords
- Office ethernet connections
- Civil and Environmental Engineering owned applications support
- Civil and Environmental Engineering owned hardware support
- Web page comments.
Other On-Campus Computer Resources
Other On-Campus Resources UW's Computing & Communications offers general student e-mail and UNIX acesss, web site space and 24-hour computer lab access. UW also maintains a large directory of software available through C&C. Like Civil and Environmental Engineering, UW provides the help@cac.washington.edu e-mail support service. They will guide you through any problems you're having with their system, including:
- Uniform Access (Dante, Homer, Saul) account problems
- Forgotten passwords
- HTML help (beginner and expert)
- Email/Pine help
- Applications support
- Netscape help
- Modem and other hardware help
Suzzallo Library
Within the library, they have a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) lab that students, faculty, and staff can use for GIS related work. In addition to having the necessary software (ArcGIS), the lab is staffed with two individuals who have some expertise in GIS and who are available to help patrons with GIS questions, whether it
pertains to using the software or finding GIS data. More information is available here.
Connecting From Home
To connect from home, you will need to purchase a copy of the UW Internet Connectivity Kit (UWICK). If connecting from off-campus via phone, you'll also need to purchase and install a modem. For more information on the UWICK kit, please visit the C&C web page.
If you are connecting via ethernet, either from your ethernet-enabled dorm, or from an on-campus office, you can alternatively purchase an ethernet kit for your Mac or PC computer - this includes all the necessary components required to connect your machine to ethernet. Check your front desk for details.
