BSENVE degree requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering (BSENVE) program focuses specifically on two of the department's six areas of engineering emphasis: environmental and hydrology and hydrodynamics. The BSENVE degree is appropriate for students who have a strong science background and wish to pursue environmental engineering in greater depth.

The BSENVE degree encompasses extensive coursework, labs, and project experiences centering on microbiology, chemistry, and sustainability. The degree includes particular focus on water and air quality, water/wastewater treatment, hydrology, and hydrodynamics. BSENVE students gain a deep understanding of the interactions among natural and human systems to develop innovative solutions to address environmental challenges.

Students must complete a minimum of 180 credits to graduate, comprised of program prerequisites, general education courses and upper-division coursework. Study abroad programs that focus on civil and environmental engineering can also count toward degree requirements.

General Education courses and program prerequisites

Students complete roughly 90 credits of General Education courses, depending on course options selected. Students will typically complete the majority of these classes in the freshmen and sophomore years.

BSENVE major coursework

Students typically complete their BSENE major coursework in their junior and senior years. During this time, students explore their areas of their interest while taking courses to meet Technical Elective and Engineering & Science Elective requirements.
