Heidi Gough joined the University of Washington in 2011. She received her PhD, MS, and BS from Northwestern University. Prior to obtaining her graduate degrees, she worked as an environmental engineering consultant in the areas of subsurface remediation, hazardous waste management, and air permitting. She holds a Professional Engineering License in the state of Illinois.
Heidi’s research specializations are in the linkage between applied microbial ecology and environmental engineering. Her current and recent projects have included characterization of microbes capable of degrading pharmaceutical contaminants in wastewater, anaerobic co-digestion for improved methane generation, applications of vermiremediation to crude oil contaminated soils, and impacts of metal contaminants to sediment microbial ecology.
