Preparing to Graduate

In order to best prepare to graduate with your degree, several action items must be completed prior to graduation. Congratulations to all upcoming graduates, we hope you will stay in touch!

Final steps

  1. Apply for your degree
    In order to formally graduate (i.e., earn your degree), students must apply for their degree. Upon completion of degree requirements, the degree will be posted to the student's UW transcript. Approximately two quarters prior to the quarter you intend to graduate, please contact your CEE Undergraduate Adviser at ceadvice@uw.edu.
  2. Complete the CEE Student Survey
    The survey will be sent out in May.
  1. Apply for your degree
    In order to formally graduate (i.e., earn your degree), students must apply for their degree. This should be done by no later then the eighth week of the quarter a student intends to graduate. Upon completion of degree requirements, your degree will be posted. Graduate Students who plan to graduate in the spring must submit a Master’s Degree Final Exam Request to the Graduate School by April 15 in order for their name to appear in the UW Commencement program.
  2. Submit an updated program plan
    Students will work with their faculty adviser to complete a signed, updated program plan for their degree and submit it to the CEE Graduate advisers no later then the eighth week of the quarter a student intends to graduate.
  3. Return Master's Warrants
    Once CEE Graduate Advising has your program plan and degree request, they will send you your warrant paperwork which will be signed by your adviser and faculty members. 
  4. Complete the CEE Exit Survey 
    Unless you are continuing on to the Ph.D. program, students are asked to complete the CEE Exit Survey. The survey is intended to capture information about students’ experiences in the program and plans for after graduation.

Graduation events

Students are invited to attend both a CEE Department Graduation Ceremony and the UW Commencement Ceremony.

UW Commencement Ceremony

For the first time in the University's 159-year history, the graduating class is invited to join in two UW Commencement ceremonies.

On June 13, 2020, graduates, their families, and friends will gather from around the world to join in celebrating the Class of 2020 in a live, interactive webcast.

Then, in June 2021, all Class of 2020 graduates, their families, and friends will be invited back to Husky Stadium to participate in the 2021 Commencement Ceremony.

CEE Department Graduation Celebration

We are working quickly and creatively to develop a safe and meaningful way to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2020 Civil & Environmental Engineering graduates. More information will be sent to graduates and made available on this page in the coming weeks.  Thank you for your patience as we pivot to a new way of recognizing the graduating class of 2020!
