CEE has established the Daniel J. Evans Endowed Professorship in Civil & Environmental Engineering, honoring Daniel J. Evans (BSCE ’48, MSCE ’49), a civil engineer, CEE alumnus and three-term Washington governor whose career exemplified service to the public. The professorship is intended to strengthen the department’s ability to recruit and retain faculty who teach with purpose and pursue work that benefits communities.

Evans began his career as a civil engineer before entering public service, served as Washington’s governor from 1965-77, later represented the state in the U.S. Senate and remained deeply engaged with the UW as a regent and civic leader.

This effort also reflects CEE’s long-standing commitment to education, community and engineering for the public good.
