BSEnvE Transfer Students

Transfer students who meet the prerequisite requirements for the BS EnvE degree may declare the major provided that they are admitted to the UW. The required BS EnvE junior year curriculum begins in autumn quarter only, so transfer students should plan to have all their prerequisites completed prior to autumn quarter of their junior year.

UW Application Deadline

The UW application deadline for autumn quarter admission is February 15, so start your transfer planning process early. When applying to UW, indicate your interest in the BS EnvE major.

How to Apply to UW

Course equivalencies
Depending on what type of college or university students are transferring from, course equivalencies will need to be determined from the transfer institution.

State community and technical college transfers
Students from Washington State community and technical colleges should use the online UW Equivalency Guide to determine UW equivalencies from their transfer institutions. The CEE Department looks for completion of prerequisite courses for the major, not necessarily completion of an associate’s degree.

Four-year and out-of-state institution transfers
Students with coursework from four-year institutions and out-of-state colleges and universities should be prepared to present course materials (minimally, course descriptions and syllabi) for courses they wish to have evaluated for transfer equivalency. There are no transfer guides for four-year and out-of-state institutions.

Helpful tips

  • Most college-level math, science, and engineering fundamentals courses (such as statics, mechanics of materials, etc.), and general education courses tend to transfer across 4-year institutions. Apply with transfer courses that best match CEE prerequisite courses.
  • The UW Admissions Office provides the initial transfer evaluation once a student is admitted to the UW. In cases where UW Admissions cannot determine equivalency, the course is reviewed by the respective academic department for equivalency.
  • Retain your course materials (such as course description, syllabus, lab outlines and/or projects) in case your transfer course needs to be reviewed by faculty.
  • Physics courses should be calculus-based and Chemistry courses should be algebra-based, Courses should have accompanying labs.
  • You must meet UW Admissions requirements, including foreign language admissions requirement. See UW’s transfer requirements for more information.

Attend a UW transfer Thursday session
Every Thursday afternoon, the UW offers 45-minute Transfer Thursday Sessions for prospective transfer students, who are invited to come to campus to learn about the admissions process, meet with an adviser and learn how to best prepare.
