Construction, Energy and Sustainable Infrastructure

Construction, energy and sustainable infrastructure research develops new ways to design, build and maintain the systems that people depend on every day. From roads and buildings to energy use and global development, this work focuses on creating infrastructure that is sustainable, resilient and responsive to society’s needs.

Overview

Research in construction, energy and sustainable infrastructure examines how infrastructure is designed, built and maintained to better serve communities. Faculty and students investigate topics such as sustainable building and road materials, energy use in infrastructure systems and the social dimensions of engineering in both local and global contexts.

Researchers collaborate with public agencies and industry partners such as the Washington State Department of Transportation, the Transportation Improvement Board, the Federal Highway Administration, Puget Sound Energy, the National Science Foundation and Engineers Without Borders.
